'WOYWW - 28 Aug 2013 - Tidy, Tinkering and Tips!'

by Mary Lou 'LuLu' Haynes

Howdy and Welcome,

I've been enjoying the summer weather here in Chicago, but now I'm hoping to post more regularly. This week for WOYWW, I thought I'd give you a peek at my desk when it was tidy. This was just before my hubby and I went on vacation/holiday to visit his relatives in NY state last week.

I was tinkering around - because I needed to reorganize some of my supplies -  and cobbled together some storage containers for my Stickles, Distress Stickles refills, Studio medium and more. I did not want to pay moola for a solution.

STORAGE TIP
So the trick I used was to take the caps off of my spray ink/Glimmer Mist/Dylusions bottles, turn the caps upside down and glue them into some plastic trays from my stash.

FROM FAILURE TO SUCCESS
My 1st attempt, was not 100% successful...I had glued (E6000) the caps too close together so when I inserted the upside down bottles they didn't quite fit. No worries - I popped out most of the caps and spaced them a wee bit further apart.

These trays now sit on my work table in shelves within arms reach - they were too far away before I discovered this solution.

These pix show my second attempt - success!

The black tray shows a few empty caps, just begging for new supplies!

The clear bead box stores some Lumiere metallic fabric paints.

YOUR TURN
How do you store your Stickles and small bottles? Do you use a store bought solution? Or do you like to cobble together solutions from your stash and stuff found around the house?

Thanks for stopping by - I'd love for you to comment on this post, or any of my other posts. And please become a Follower if you aren't already - goodies for Followers coming this Autumn!

Peace,
LuLu

That is a good idea, and I have had a go at that... coz you can keep using the same glued in lids with new bottles...if they stay the same size! But in my dreams I'd love the turntable one I've just spotted on Julia's blog! But my job for to day is to tidy up! Have a crafty week!

Very good idea, but if I had them on my desk no room to craft, since my tidy up all now nicely arranged in my new wall unit. And horror apon horror I have managed to keep tidy 2 weeks in a row. Have a good day... Francesca #55

Seeing as I only have two Stickles I don't have the same problems as you! (Wish I did though!). Love the idea, could be used for other items too. Thanks for sharing and Happy WOYWW! ♥ Karen ♥ 82 x

You are really good at organising your desk, I am afraid all my inks and stickles and similar things are in a drawer under the desk or in my toolbox. when I need them I have to rummage about to find them.
You visited last week's WOYWW and asked about our Motorhome, it is very ancient, well 1996,so it is not possible to get anything much like it today, but it is based on a Fiat Ducato.
I will try to email you some pictures, but not certain I even have any suitable one.

What a great idea, Lulu. My things like that are all in one drawer - not a huge supply of them, so quite easy to find what I need. I'm with you, though. No need to pay out loads of cash when there are simple, and cheap, solutions.
Have a great week.

I love your fabulous repurposed bins for your Stickles! Mine are in a piece from a board game which was meant to hold game pieces. I paid 10¢ for it at a garage sale. I holds only 12 bottles so I may have to give your invention a try!

Wishing you the best of Wednesdays!

I have all of mine hidden in a little box glitter glues upside down and I don't own many mists so they just sit in a little box inside the bigger box but your solution works really well with the glued down lids like that

Hello, I am sending this to everyone. Im sorry I am not going to be able to get to all the desk and I have now lost my sheet of paper that I was writing them down on. I don't think my cat is going to make it through the night to even see the vet. She is old just like my dog so I guess they are going to get sick at the same time or so. I just going to copy and paste and sorry to every one that I didn't get to read.. I just cant do it right now. Thank you Roberta 40 and bright blessings to all.

Hi now that is clever I hadn't thought of actually
Julia posted a while ago about a storage thing she brought made from a cd holed carousel thing. I got my 'handyman' to make me one too. Mine uses the central pole with pieces of wood. With holes cut in it..... Quite complicated sounding but not really I think you might just be able to see it on my desk

That's a clever way of storing your supplies as it allows you to see the colors etc. My only concern if I did something like this is I have a tendency to forget to put a lid on properly and I'd probably end up with stuff everywhere. At present My Kindy Glitz and a lot of my sprays are standing upright in the top of my SU Stamp Carosel and my dye reinkers etc are in a stand my dad made for me. Hope you have a great week!
