WOYWW 03-28-12: Mad Scientist Experiments!'

by Mary Lou 'LuLu' Haynes

Howdy and Welcome,

Today while tidying up a bit for WOYWW this week, I unearthed a paper project in the nether regions of my craft table. I  had donned my mad scientist hat a while back and was experimenting by ironing freezer paper to the backs of some thin papers  - tissue, handmade, original blotter splats. So far, so good.

'Mad Scientist EXPERIMENTS'

Next, the plan is to adhere the rough side of 2 freezer papers back to back to create a sturdy substrate. When dry, I'll punch the pages with my Bind It All, then use the pages as backgrounds in art journals. This is a slow process for me - I like instant gratification with my experiments. But this project seems to be dragging on...

How about you? Have you tried ironing freezer paper to the backs of thin/flimsy  papers? What were your results? Have you tried ironing freezer paper to fabrics? Would love to see your results. Please email me or comment here with a link to your blog post if you've tried this technique.

Not shown: just got in a shipment from jetpens.com of white gel pens of various brands. So far, I'm loving how they write over all the various media in my art journals.

Thanks for visiting - would love for you to comment on this - or any - of my posts. And please become a follower while you're here. Giveaway for followers coming very soon!

To see more artist studios visit WOYWW here.

Peace,
LuLu

Sounds like your paper/freezer paper would make a great background page. So it would make the paper stronger and waxier? I haven't ever done this though as I don't have an iron!
Look forward to seeing the finished pages! And I hope you will do a review on the white gel pens too!

Years ago when envelopes were being routinely hand made to match 'non-standard' card sizes, I used to iron freezer paper to coloured and patterned tissue papers and make envelopes from the result,,the tissue linings were a cheerful and nice surprise, but I've never been any more adventurous with it than that! And now it's nearly £12 a roll in the UK, I don't use it at all!

Nope not ironed freezer paper on anything as yet. Did have some years ago - now where is it?
White pens - are any of them fine pointed ~Sharpie ones? I have a friend who is looking for some and doesn't know where to buy from.

OK... so now I need freezer paper? Not waxed paper or parchment paper? LOL The pens sound interesting as I am looking for something that will write on weird and wonderful stuff for my altered book... Annette #22

I did it years ago the freezer paper ironing onto the backs of papers and it worked a treat for me as long as there was no steam in the iron. I will try and hunt the papers down. i also used wax paper and ironed it onto my own created papers and it gave a really good splotchy look. Worth a try.

Thanks for sharing your desk
