'WOYWW - 11-16-11: My First Ever Textile Art Commission!'

by Mary Lou 'LuLu' Haynes

Howdy and welcome!

For WOYWW this week, I'm working on my very first textile art commission!

Stay tuned for textile project details when it's completed. After I finish this commission, my next project is a fiber art piece -I can't wait to finish it. I can't sleep, I'm so excited thinking about it!

Have you ever worked or played with textiles? What's your fave luxury fabric? Do you ever use exotic/novelty yarns in your work? any ribbons? Nowadays, I am loving ribbons!

Don't forget to see my 2nd Blogoversary FREEBIES post! See more artist studios here at WOYWW.

Thanks for stopping by - and please come back soon.

Peace,
LuLu

I waited until tonight to start WOYWWing and Im working backwards ...very different ...congrats on getting a commission ...in answer to your question ...I have not created with material but it has been crossing my mind that it might be fun ... I only have used ribbon and lace in LO's ...so far ...looking forward to seeing your creation.

Well done! ANd in honour, you've spring cleaned your room, cleaned the big windows, summoned sunshine and generally cleared your mind. What, it's like that all the time?!! I don't have a fave fabric texture, just very taken by colour - and I see sumptuousness on your desk.

Hi there! Lovely desk, what a view you have and loads of light. Gorgeous :D
Love the fabrics you're working with too. Mmmmmm, fabric....
I love silks and pure cotton best, anything that's soft to the touch. I dislike rough fabrics or anything too manmade. Whilest I love ribbons, they always go wrong for me when I'm sewing them, I obviously don't have the knack.
Of course I'll sell you a couple of tidies. Have to work out what the postage will be though and get back to you. Cos they're filled with dried peas, the postage might cost more than the tidy itself. Email me via the link on my page and I'll get info back to you!

Good for you, girl. It is great to hear from someone so enthused about their craft. Good luck with your commission.

For being # 1 this week, I'm awfully late visiting. I'm so sorry but, after a computer crash, I had to stop by and get a bit of inspiration from your bright and cheery work space and gorgeous windows from which you can see the outside world. I sure like that craft mat. Nice size for your projects. Keep us updated on the project.

I don't have a luxury fabric I've ever worked with. In fact, to me, wool and silk are luxury fabrics. Anything that costs over $2.00 a yard (grin). I like old bed sheets because I can get them for about $4.00 at the thrift store, then tear them into lots of projects.

hmm I"ve used textiles as a medium but not too much. Love your window, I hope nothing from your desk falls out of it lol
