I'm in the newspaper! I'm officially a celebrity!
well, sort of a celebrity...One of our local newspapers here in Chicago, featured an article about me and the mixed media Art Journal class I'm teaching next week at the Beverly Arts Center in Chicago, IL.

We'll be using all sorts of goodies, including washi tapes, scrapbooking paper and doing all sorts of techniques including: collage, frottage, laminating, doodling and more!

'My 1st Textile Art Commission!'

Here are W-I-P pix from the textile art commission I completed last Friday. This is the prototype wearable art for fitness dance instuctors.

My approach to this project was to think of it as a quilt sandwich - with top, batting, backing and quilting.

Left: 12 luxury fabrics - cut into 3" squares, and labled with their placement positions

(Turns out that I did not use the fancy white and gold trim or the travel quilting iron)

The happy client!

Since 2001, I've been a scrapbooker. So this textile art was a GI-norm-ous stetch for me! I did a lot of problem solving on this commission. It was challenging - and fun to play outside of my comfort zone!

'WOYWW 12-01: LuLu's WIPs'

My workstation today ended up with a bunch of stuff to organize or create. Just various little projects that need attention.

Clockwise, from top left: 

1. Two original background stamps made yesterday from: round hardware store sticker finds and foam puzzle stickers and  from foam letter stickers, both painted with gesso and sealed with matte medium adhered to empty VHS tape boxes
2. Liquitex matte medium (my medium of choice)
3. my concoction of matte medium mixed with white gesso (I love measuring and mixing wet supplies, glazes, paints, gessos, etc!) stored in a small plastic Rubbermaid container
4. small leather purse I've never used. Because of it's shape and depth, I'm considering using it as a travel pencil case or travel paint box. It has a handle and a long strap.
5. Four of my flash drives. I try to carry them around the house in my pants pocket, since I sprained my ankle. Can't run up and down the stairs like I used to do when I need to use files between the upstairs desktop PC and downstairs laptop.
6. clear packaging from the iPod shuffle hubby gave last month me. I'm thinking about using it as a shadow box for some little art project.

Another original photo ACCEPTED for publication!

I'm happy to announce that another of my original photos will be published in the SPRING 2010 issue of the BAC Street Journal (No. 3)!

This is the second time my work has been published in the BAC Street Journal. Last year, the premier issue of the BAC Street Journal - published in Spring 2009 - included two of my works - an original poem and an original photo!

The Beverly Art Center, publisher of the BAC Street Journal, is throwing a reception on Sunday May 23, 2010 for all of us artists who are being published in this Spring issue!

Gold in Quartz

Here is a mixed-media piece I've been playing with the past few days over the New Year's holiday weekend. Inspiration for this piece was from an article in my 'Lapidary Journal / Jewelry Artist' magazine' I added many layers. Fun!
