(SU15) Basic Mixed Media Prep 101: Art Journaling - In this 2-day workshop ‘mini-camp’, you will explore mixed media and in the process, transform a blank journal into a fun art journal! Art techniques include: laminating, frottage, collage, under-journaling, resists, glazing, masks, stenciling, and tangling. Once you learn these techniques you’ll never look at a blank page the same. The instructor will bring her personal collection of art journals for ideas and inspiration. See supplies list for items to bring to class – also, some FREE supplies will be provided.

'WOYWW - 3/7/12 - Shhhhh! Glazing Chemist Resists The Urge!'

Howdy and Welcome and Happy WOYWW!

Unusual for me this week is a tidy work space!

I was forced to clean up because I had to prepare for a scrapbooking event - and needed the worktable to organize and stage my supplies. It was painful - but the results were worth the trouble.

Before the event, I went shopping at Michaels and JoAnns and used a slew of coupons. LOVE those coupons! Most of the loot is already put away in their 'homes'.. So now I just have this last little task to do: fill the empty bottle with glazing medium.

I put a Ranger dabber top on the Michaels bottle. I prefer to spread my wet materials with a dabber instead of a brush. Quicker and neater for me.

My usual MO is adding acrylic paint to glazing medium - then I'll have a smidgeon of color available to quickly apply on the base of my art journal pages. There are drawers and drawers of different colored tinted glazes, tinted clear gessos and tinted white gessos in my studio!

But for this bottle, I'm going to resist the urge to color, and just keep the medium plain and clear.

'WOYWW - 03/09/11 - Organizing after unpacking art journal supplies!'

Howdy and welcome,

While I was organizing pens, pencils and markers after unpacking supplies from art journaling I did at the 2 day scrapbooking crop over the weekend, I realized that it's Wednesday! Time for WOYWW - What's on your workstation Wednesday...

Resists to be organized and consolidated:

Faber Castell Gel stix, watercolor crayons

(in an antique red tobacco tin I inherited - perfect size),

crayons, and colored pencils

I usually write illegible script, calligraphy or print quotes illegibly when I first start working on blank pages. Love the texture of handwriting, printing and calligraphy. Also I sometimes write and print after I lay down a layer or 2 of acrylic galzes on the page.

I prep journals all in a batch, usually. To me it makes sense to do all the resists while I have the resist supplies out. When I put the resist supplies away, and then  take out the messy glazing supplies and do messing glazing. I like to use old hotel or credit cards - per Dawn Sokol's Pages in Stages dvd.
